Fire District Elections:

Property Tax Outrage in Gordon Heights!

Conservative Society for Action Member Who Ran for Fire Commissioner Wants the District Dissolved.

ALEX HANSON WINS!

How would you like to pay $3600 a year for your local volunteer fire department, in addition to your regular property taxes? That’s what happens in Gordon heights!

Proponents of the bid to dissolve the Gordon Heights Fire District, Maryanne Owens and CSA Member Alex Hanson, ran for two seats on the five-member Board of Fire Commissioners.

Both Hansen and Owens won in a landslide.

The Gordon Heights Fire District, which is a special taxing district that funds the Gordon Heights Fire Department, has the highest fire taxes in the state. Residents who oppose the high fire tax recently filed petitions with the Town of Brookhaven to dissolve the fire district and form a fire protection district in its place. The town has since agreed to study all of the issues involved with the scenario, including whether or not a fire protection district would provide a financial benefit to taxpayers.

Gordon Heights Fire District secretary Diana Brown said that petitions to run for the Board of Fire Commissioners have been filed by Alex Hanson, a proponent of the dissolution of the fire district, and incumbents Philip Gordon and Frank Swinton for a five-year term. Maryanne Owens, who is also a proponent of the dissolution of the fire district and who lost a bid for election by just three votes a year ago, will oppose first-time candidate Patricia Wilson Brown for a one-year term.

Mr. Hanson, 48, is production manager for a manufacturing company and is also the husband of CSA member Rosalie Hanson, a community member who led the drive to collect signatures for the dissolution of the fire district and the creation of a fire protection district in its place. Mr. Hanson said he and Ms. Owens ran on the same ticket as a "tax fighting team."

This was a huge victory for Hansen, Gordon Heights and CSA. It proves that with the right organization and determination, we CAN make a difference.  Hanson and Owens are the ONLY two Fire Commissioners on Long Island that are "citizen commissioners", meaning they are NOT members of the fire department.

OUTRAGE
At Islip Town Board Meeting!

October 14, 2009 -- Town Board Members Refuse to Take Small Pay Cut to Help Balance the Budget...  But Have No Problem Handing Pink Slips to 70 Low-Paid Employees!

When Supervisor Nolan and his allies on the town board were asked to take a small pay cut and to contribute to their health insurance cost, THEY SAID "NO".

Members of the Conservative Society for Action attended the Islip Town Board meeting on October 14, 2009. Here's what happened:

PLEASE GIVE COUNCILMAN
STEVE FLOTTERON YOUR SUPPORT!

As for Chris Bodkin? He's the most senor member of the Islip Town Board and has been taking a public pay check for 14 years. The one time he's asked to "give back", he didn't even have the guts to second a motion to do so.

CHRIS BODKIN MUST BE DEFEATED ON ELECTION DAY!

Councilman Steve Flotteron offered three resolutions designed to save $750,000. Supervisor Nolan and his supporters on the town board announced plans to lay off 70 low level employees to balance the budget. Nolan recently gave out "discretionary raises" to a number of high-level officials.

Flotteron feels high-level town employees should share in the burden of a tough economy. He presented three resolutions:

  • High-paid officials shold accept a temporary 10% cut in salary;

  • High-paid employees should contribute 15% of their cost of health insurance; and;

  • Recent raises for high-paid officials should be rolled back.

The three resolutions were defeated because NO other town board member would even second the motions. In short, Islip Town will balance the budget on the backs of their lowest-paid employees while giving out raises to high-level officials.

Please remember to vote on Election Day!

Sincerely,
Stephen Flanagan

LONG ISLANDERS!  You Started the Fight to Stop Washington Tyranny

June 22, 2009 - Setauket, Long Island: New York's First Congressional District Representative Tim Bishop (D) held a town hall meeting at a local meeting house. He was met by 350 angry citizens who wanted him to know how they felt about Cap & Trade, Nationalized Health Care, Record Deficits, Bailouts, and Nancy Pelosi's view of Washington and America. The following video says it all. Bishop is a rubber stamp for Nancy Pelosi and Barney Frank and his constituents are mad.

The following video has been viewed all over America. It is being used as a template for what other Patriots will do to their Representatives. This may also be used as a precursor to what we will do to our U.S. Senators as they consider Cap & Trade and Nationalized Health Care:
